Traditional farmland in Pennsylvania with extensive estates. No other state has so many quiet cycling friendly country roads.
Cycling conditions
Pennsylvania has a bike network and has more quiet, rural paved roads than any other state. The legislation on bicycle safety is still under development.
Landscape
The north and west of the state are part of the Allegheny and Appalachian Plateau and consists of rolling hills. This plateau changes to the southern Appalachian ridge (here up to 1,000 m high) that devides the state from north to south. West (forests) and East (agriculture) of the Appalachians it is flatter. Pennsylvania is densely populated, however many people live in the population centers. The remainder is very rural.
Climate
Pennsylvania has warm, not very dry summers. Winters are severe and especially in mountainous areas there is much snow.
