Bike pastoral roads. Cruise beside sparkling waters. Hike through rich old-growth forest. Spend a half-day kayaking Roche Harbor's placid waters with a naturalist/guide. Our most popular tour of Washington's San Juan Islands highlights the very best of life on the Salish Sea. Top it off with sumptuous lodging and fresh island cuisine. Conde Nast Traveler named Friday Harbor (where you'll spend a good bit of time) one of the Most Beautiful Towns in America. Decades in the making, the Olympic Discovery Trail follows an old rail line on the Olympic peninsula. No logging trucks! Our tour covers about 100 miles on this mostly paved trail with the snowcapped Olympic Mountain Range to one side and the Strait of Juan de Fuca on the other. Enjoy steller views from the waterfront Inns every night but one. We begin at Lake Quinault and head north and east around the peninsula, stopping at Kalaloch, Ruby Beach, the Hoh Rainforest, Forks, Lake Crescent, and Port Angeles before we hit the high point of the tour at Hurricane ridge. We also get off our bikes to take a closer look at things, hiking in ancient forest, on beaches, and through sub-alpine meadows. Stay at two National Park lodges on the water. Finish the week with a coastel bike ride and beautiful ferry ride straight into the heart of the Seattle waterfront

Cycling conditions The central government is conducting an active policy to encourage cycling, both recreational and commuting. Also in the individual communities there are bicycle projects. There are many bike-friendly routes. Landscape Washington has a spectacular scenery of mountains, water, and temperate rain forests. The state has three National Parks. Behind the beautiful Pacific coast are the Coast Mountains in the south, the Willapa Hills (900 m) and the Olympic Mountains to the north. Behind them begins a high inland plateau, the Cascade Range. The western slopes of the Cascades are wooded. The eastern (bare) slopes are going down to the eastern Columbia Basin, a vast lava plateau. Washington is a major grain and wood producer. Climate Temperate climate on the west coast. In summer the weather is usually excellent, with a chance of rain or cloudy days. Most rain falls between October and April. On the east side of the Cascades a more continental climate with hot summers and cold winters.
