Landscape
The eastern part of Virginia consists of a coastal plain with many lagoons. In the south, on the border with North Carolina there is large swamp area. Inland, to the west the rolling Piedmont mountains. Further west are the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Ridge and Valley region – broad valleys separated by sharp ridges. There is agriculture in this state. The western hills and mountains are mostly forested with oak and pine trees.

Climate
Virginia has a humid climate with warm summers. In winter it can freeze in the upper west side. Towards the coast the winters are quite mild. Spring and autumn are the best periods to visit this state.
