Prince Edward Island bike tour S.G.

Irish-green fields, stunning red cliffs, and sparkling blue waves characterize the maritime landscape in Canada’s smallest province. Much of our cycling route hugs the ocean along the Blue Heron Drive, named for the statuesque birds that frequent the area. Perfect biking temperatures and refreshing sea air make summer cycling a breeze. You’ll enjoy plenty of off-bike delights too, from an evening of Maritime theatre to the endless dunes and beaches of the National Park—not to mention PEI’s world famous mussels!

Day 1:

(0, 6, or 15 mi.)
An tour operators guide will transfer you from Charlottetown or the airport to the cozy seaside village and arts enclave of Victoria-by-the-Sea, originally an 18th-century English landlord’s estate. After fitting your bike, your guide will take you for a warm-up spin to Victoria Beach, ending with an “educational” stop at the Island Chocolates Company! Two-night stay in the village at a charming Victorian-era inn.

Day 2:

(48 or 54 mi. loop)
Cycle past scenic coves, lighthouses, and Provincial Parks along Northumberland Strait. Picnic with panoramic views at Fort Amherst National Historic Park, the first European settlement on Ile Saint-Jean. Return to Victoria through the rolling green fields of New Argyle. If you like, take in a show this evening at the intimate Victoria Playhouse, a true island experience.

Day 3:

(29 or 41 mi.)
Follow the Blue Heron Drive along the south coast (with a great view of the Confederation Bridge) en route to a historic five-star B&B in Summerside. In the afternoon, cycle an optional loop through the Région Acadienne along Malpeque Bay, stopping to learn about PEI’s French heritage at Le Musée Acadien in Miscouche. For evening entertainment, check out the local ceilidh at the College of Piping.

Day 4:

(33 or 39 mi.)
Ride through the rolling green farmland of the interior to the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Brake for the view at Southwest River, and top off your lunch with fresh blueberry pie. A warm welcome awaits at Kindred Spirits Country Inn in Cavendish. If you’re an Anne of Green Gables fan, a visit to Lucy Maud Montgomery’s homestead is a must.

Day 5:

(26, 32, or 41 mi.)
Begin the day on a scenic nature trail in the National Park, then take a coastal route along the cliffs of Cavendish to the fishing village of North Rustico for lunch. Local artwork and native gardens are both on view along the way at the Dunes Studio Gallery. Continue Gulfside to Dalvay-by-the-Sea Resort, where our grand hotel overlooks twenty-five miles of dunes and beaches in the National Park.

Day 6:

(25 or 31 mi.)
Watch for cormorants and osprey along the National Seashore, stopping at the picturesque harbor at Tracadie Wharf; then take the Confederation Trail to the 19th-century heart of Charlottetown. There’s plenty to do and see: have lunch at a sidewalk café, tour the Province House National Historic Site to learn about the birth of Canada’s Confederation, stroll the boardwalk at Confederation Landing Park, take in a waterfront concert, or see a musical production of “Anne of Green Gables.” Four-star overnight in the Historic District at the Great George.

Day 7:

Meet your local guide for mid-morning transfer to Charlottetown Airport.
