Itinerary

Day 1:

Ride to the Whitewater Preserve through the San Gorgonio Pass.

Start the ride in the valley then pedal up to the Whitewater Preserve, nestled between the San Bernardino and San Jacinto Mountains. Cross the San Gorgonio Pass Wind Farm, one of the oldest and largest wind farms in the United states. After lunch return the way you came, then maybe explore a bit of Coachella Valley or tackle a ride up Mt. San Jacinto (the toughest ride in the valley!). Or relax and lounge by the pool.

Day 2:

Ride Joshua Tree National Park. Ride past its namesake trees. Count cactus varieties and maybe spot a jackrabbit or desert bighorn sheep.

Marvel at the twisted, spiky trees straight out of a Dr. Seuss illustration at the junction of three of California’s ecosystems: the Colorado Desert, the Mojave Desert, and the Little San Bernardino Mountains. Check out the hundreds of plant and animal species that make their home here. Want to ride more? Climb to Keys View for a little altitude and a great view of Thursday's ride around the Salton Sea.

Day 3:

Ride Palm Springs. Home to the rich and famous of the Rat Pack era, today it boasts the best urban life has to offer.

The Rat Pack may have moved on, but the city’s style hasn't. Palm Springs is as cool as it gets in the middle of a desert. Pedal around the city. Check out retro-style architecture. Pamper your tastebuds at sweet cafés. Window shop. Or do it all. Lunch and dinner are on your own today, so take things at your own pace.

Day 4:

Pedal to the Salton Sea, a lake with depths rivaling Death Valley's lowest point, salinity greater than the Pacific Ocean, and quirky boom-and-bust towns.

Pedal along the shores of the Salton Sea, once part of a vast inland sea and today the largest lake in California. Head up to Salvation Mountain and check out a modern masterpiece of desert folk art made of concrete and adobe adorned with colorful paint and religious messages – recognized by the US Senate as a national treasure.

Day 5:

Cycle Box Canyon, a colorful ravine through the date palms in the Coachella Valley.
Head back toward Palm Springs, soaking in views of the Salton Sea with the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountain ranges off in the distance. Cruise through acres of date palm trees on this route through the Coachella Valley. Stop for a picnic lunch at Lake Cahuilla. Pedal through low deserts checkered with orange and date tree groves and savor a delectable date milkshake to top off the trip
