Cycling conditions There is governmental support for bicycle projects. The bike infrastructure is pretty good but traffic can be dense. There is a mountain bike route network. Landscape In the extreme northwest of the state lie the forested Kittatinny Mountains, foothills of the Appalachians. The coastal plain, approximately 60% of the total area of the state, ends at the seafront with a row of dunes. Along the 200 km long coast line there are coastal islands, peninsulas and salt-marshes at high tide. In the 18th century, New Jersey was named the Garden State, for its fertile soil. Nowadays it is a fairly industrial state, with a good nature preservation. Climate In the south, New Jersey has hot, humid summers and mild winters. The north has cold winters.
