The tour heads north from Portland through apple country with stops at a few orchards to taste this years crop of apples, cider, and, of course, cider donuts. This is cycling country, rural, rolling, peak foliage and great company.
The tour continues north-east to Maine’s capital city, Augusta. You will see the foliage with scenic hills and lakes providing the backdrop. Make sure you bring your camera.
The tour next turns to the east as you cruise down to the Maine seacoast and the Atlantic ocean. Fall is the perfect time to ride past the many coastal fishing villages. Watch as the lobstermen haul their pots in for the season. You will want to be sure to sample some of the local fare of lobster rolls and clam chowder.
Investigate the many coves and narrows along the rugged Maine coast. The ride continues south along the coastline and passes by the famous boat building towns of Rockland and Boothbay. You will enjoy meeting the friendly local people as you approach by bicycle.
You finish up back in Portland some 200 miles later. You will see many sights and really get to know the beauty and diversity of Maine, not to mention the great colors of fall. Come celebrate fall New England style!
