We’ll begin our ride in the beautiful city of Vancouver, leaving the North Shore mountains behind. Pedaling our way east we’ll discover the best of southern British Columbia and Alberta. Perhaps we will have a few bear sightings on the way, though we actually do not recommend giving them a hug!
We’ll cycle along the famous Fraser River before tackling the Coastal Mountain range, with a night spent in the city of Hope. The town may look familiar if you watched the movie Rambo from the 80’s, as it was entirely shot in the town and surrounding mountains. We’ll continue our journey to the mountain town of Princeton, from there it’s onwards to Penticton and Lake Okanagan for a well-deserved day of rest. Being August, the temperatures should be hot, and the lake will be a wonderful way to relax. Keep your eye out for Ogopogo, the legendary creature of the lake.
From Penticton, for those wishing to take an adventurous and challenging route, we’ll ride the Kettle Valley Trail towards Kelowna. While the very rough trail surface won't be easy, the minimal vehicular traffic and incredible views from the trestle bridges along the way will be a just reward. For those wishing to stay on a paved route that day we also have a plan for you!
Departing Kelowna and Lake Okanagan, we’ll venture into the Kootenays on roads often over-looked by Trans-Canada type tours. The lakes, mountains and quirky, independent minded small towns will be a highlight. Our rest day will be spent in the town of Nelson, built on the backs of silver miners in the 1800’s, and famous for its more contemporary hippie culture.
Heading towards the Crowsnest Pass we’ll enjoy more mountain views and have a day to explore the ski-town of Fernie; a mountain bike mecca, and if cycling on the rest day is your thing a rental mountain bike is easy to find for some off road adventures.
Descending into southern Alberta from the mountains, a whole new landscape will open up before us. With the plains stretching out as far as the eye can see, yet with the mountains high above us still to the west. We’ll cycle the famous

Cowboy Trail, with its countless cattle ranches, and strong willed cowboy culture. Our last night in Turner Valley may be a night to drink at the local saloon and savor the western experience before our ride into the bike friendly city of Calgary.
