Hike and bike through a region that showcases towering mountain ranges and unusual desert landscapes on this Southern California bicycle tour. Along with the presence of striking Joshua trees, for which this national park was named, Joshua Tree National Park features expansive vistas and distinct rock formations which draw climbers from around the world. Southern California’s towering San Jacinto Mountains form an impressive backdrop to the valley floor in Palm Springs. The palm canyons of the Santa Rosa foothills where you will hike, provide shelter for herds of bighorn sheep.

Itinerary

Day 1:

Start your Joshua Tree National Park bicycle tour with a ride through the famous neighborhood of Palm Springs. Enjoy a private dinner and reception at the luxurious Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs, your home for the next 3 nights.

Day 2:

Your introduction to strikingly beautiful Joshua Tree National Park begins at the Park’s Visitor Center. Ride by huge and unusual rock formations through a winding canyon that crosses the San Andreas Fault.
31, 45, 53 miles, meals: B, L

Day 3:

Hike through Indian Canyons followed by Palm Canyon’s fan palm tree oasis after an introduction from a native Cahuilla Indian Park Ranger. You can also choose to ride to, or to and from, the start and end point of the planned hike.

Day 4:

Travel to Old Town La Quinta for cycling and golf options. Old Town exudes Spanish influenced traditional architecture and the tasteful downtown invites walkers to explore shops and bistros. In the mid-afternoon, the group will shuttle to Borrego Springs and home for the next two evenings at peaceful La Casa del Zorro, a small resort oasis an hour south of La Quinta. Stargazing is at its finest in this “Dark Sky Community.”

Day 5:

The morning ride through Anza Borrego State Park features palm canyons, cacti, and plentiful wildlife, including bighorn sheep. Spend the evening relaxing at La Casa del Zorro where stargazing is at its finest in this “Dark Sky Community.” Join us tonight for a farewell dinner at La Casa del Zorro.

Day 6:

Hike along a boulder-strewn river bed to one of the region’s only native palm canyons. The contrast of the rugged desert stone and the green palm trees is striking. Boulders the size of houses cause the trail to wind back and forth. We transport you back to Palm Springs after lunch.
