Cycling in Alabama

“Sweet Home Alabama”. Northern Alabama is mountainous. Rolling prairies to the south. Sandy beaches at the Gulf of Mexico.

Cycling conditions
Cycling is promoted by the Tourism Board but there is no statewide bicycle path network.
Landscape
Mountainous region (foothills of the Appalachians) in the northeast. Rolling prairies to the south, changing to coastal plains with sandy beaches at the Gulf of Mexico. Alabama is in the middle of the Black Belt, a belt of fertile black soil where cotton was cultivated previously. Here nature is very lush, green and not very spectacular.

Climate
Humid, subtropical. Long hot summers and short mild winters. Best season to visit is spring and autumn.
